"Pair Of Royal Worcester Porcelain Grecian Water Carriers, Dated 1912"
A matched pair of Royal Worcester porcelain figures
dated 1912, titled “Grecian Water Carriers”. Each barefoot female figure wears
a draped robe with raised gilt decoration, balancing a Greek-style urn on her
head and cradling a smaller amphora — a motif typical of neoclassical art.
The
modelling is exceptionally fine, with crisp detailing of the drapery, hands,
and facial features — a hallmark of Royal Worcester's high artistic standards
during the early 20th century.
The figures are finished in the factory’s “blush ivory” style and are
probably based on a design by James Hadley, one of Worcester’s principal
modellers in the late 19th century. Underside bears the
printed Royal Worcester mark and the model number 2 over 125.
