The hair is finely chiseled, wavy and swept back in a fashion typical of the Early Empire. Despite wear and tear, the volumes of the face - notably the forehead, cheekbones and chin - are still clearly legible and balanced, reflecting a certain classical idealization. The plastic treatment of the face, the softness of the forms as well as the hairstyle indicate a creation dating from the 1st century AD, in the tradition of Roman portraiture influenced by Hellenistic canons. This work is part of an imperial production, probably from a workshop in Italy or the eastern provinces of the Empire.
Dimensions: Height: 9 cm (excluding base)
