Claire de Coëtnempren de Kersaint, born February 27, 1777 in Brest and died January 16, 1828 in Nice, was a French writer. Having become Duchess of Duras by marriage in 1797, she is commonly called Claire de Duras or Madame de Duras. Best known for her novel Ourika (1823), which analyzes questions of racial and sexual equality, she is considered today as a precursor of feminism.
