Rococo Planter In 800 Thousandths Silver And Cut Crystal, Wolf & Zonen, Belgium, Late 19th Century
Rococo planter in 800 thousandths silver and cut crystal, Wolf & Zonen, Belgium, late 19th century Superb Rococo style planter, in solid 800 thousandths silver, mounted on an openwork octagonal pedestal, and flanked by a very thick custom-made cut crystal bowl. This is a refined Belgian work by Wolf & Zonen, a famous silversmith active in Antwerp at the end of the 19th century. The silver mount is richly decorated with scrolls, garlands of flowers and foliage, as well as oval cartouches chiseled in medallions with gallant pastoral scenes. The two finely molded side handles harmoniously complete this dense and elegant composition. The embossed and chiseled decoration, openwork on the upper part and on the pedestal, testifies to great technical mastery and decorative research inspired by 18th century models. The interior crystal, of very fine quality and great thickness, perfectly matches the shape of the frame, highlighting the unity of design and the finesse of execution of this presentation piece.
