Object description :

"Pair Of Allegorical Paintings Rabbit Hidden Under A Cabbage Pulled By The Priest "
Interesting pair of small paintings, probably allegorical, hanging from each other. In the first scene, a woman discovers a rabbit under a cabbage, the priest is about to shoot it. In the second scene, the priest holds the dead rabbit at the end of his arm, he is reprimanded by a policeman. Several interpretations are possible: for this very pictorial and symbolic scene *Criticism of religious hypocrisy*: the priest who shoots the rabbit could represent the way in which certain religious institutions or ecclesiastical authorities treat the truths or realities that disturb them. - *The truth revealed and repressed*: the woman who points to the rabbit hidden under the cabbage could symbolize the revelation of a truth or a secret, while the priest who shoots the rabbit would represent the repression or the attempt to hide this truth. - *Violence against the truth*: the fact that the priest uses a gun to kill the rabbit could symbolize the violence or force used to repress the truth or the ideas that threaten the status quo. The rabbit hidden under the cabbage could also have specific meanings, such as fertility, innocence, or vulnerability. Dimensions without frame: 21.5 x 27 cm
