Bishop of Geneva residing in Annecy, he was proclaimed a saint and doctor of the Catholic Church. Coming from a noble family, he renounced all his titles of nobility. He became one of the most respected theologians within Christianity. This great preacher rose to the bishopric of Geneva and founded the Visitation religious order with Baroness Jeanne de Chantal. He exerted a significant influence within the Catholic Church but also on those in power over the world, including its sovereigns, Dukes Charles Emmanuel I and Victor Amadeus I of Savoy, the regent of Savoy Christine of France, and Kings Henry IV and Louis XIII of France. It was during the year 1608 that he wrote his most famous work, Introduction to the Devout Life (derived from his correspondence with his cousin). This book quickly became a huge success and was reprinted more than forty times during Francis de Sales's lifetime. The influence of Saint Francis de Sales on the Catholic Church was more than great, as evidenced by the various congregations founded since then, inspired by his spirituality. The best known is undoubtedly the Salesian Institute founded by Saint John Bosco. Dimensions Dimensions 81 cm x 61.3 cm Reference: 900 752 All photos are on: www.antiques-delaval.com
