"The Courtyard Of The Ca' d'Oro In Venice, Anonymous, 1930"
A small, intimate work depicting the courtyard of the Ca' d'Oro in Venice in its original gilded frame. Oil on panel, signed lower right with the initials JB. The Ca' d'Oro, or Golden House, remains one of Venice's most impressive urban palaces. The building was constructed in 1434 in the Gothic style and overlooks the Grand Canal. On the first and second floors is the Galleria Franchetti museum, which displays an impressive collection of paintings, including St. Sebastian by Andrea Mantegna. The palace became the property of the Italian state in 1922 and was opened to the public in 1927. This painting was likely painted shortly after the museum opened and shows the palace courtyard with the famous Gothic well, which was only installed in the 19th century during a major restoration of the property. The work is believed to have been created by a local Venetian artist who offered his works for sale to tourists.Condition: The work and the accompanying frame, dating from the same period, are in good overall condition.
