The motifs on Malian doors, apart from their decorative value, are intended to deter intruders, human or animal. The Dogon are a people of Mali, in the region that extends from the Bandiagara cliff to the southwest of the Niger bend. Some are settled in northern Burkina Faso. They are above all farmers (mainly millet) and blacksmiths. And they are renowned for their cosmogony and their sculptures, with dense and intensely stylized expressions.
