"18th Century Chatelaine. "
This superb chatelaine is in pomponne, it is decorated with superimposed and openwork plaques representing suns, the first plaque, more important, is decorated in the center of this sun, with a trophy surmounted by two hearts and a dove holding a crown in its beak. Its very rich decoration is finely chiseled, each chain attached to the main element ends with a small carabiner. The chatelaine, heir to the clavandier becomes in the 18th century, what we would call today, a fashion accessory, become jewelry and worn on the belt, it can be in pomponne, silver or gold, decorated with stones, miniatures, enamel or porcelain plates, it was used to have on oneself various small instruments, scissors, thimble, salt bottle, seal, key and almost always a watch. In good general condition, this chatelaine has retained a very beautiful gilding. Period mid-18th century. Height 13.5 cm, width 5 cm.
