Anthropomorphic statuette of a protective guardian - Himalayas, Western Nepal, possibly HumlaProbably mid-20th century or earlier and possibly from the Humla region given the chignon hairstyle common among men there. This type of statue is common on the roads and paths of western Nepal and is often referred to as representing guardians or protective spirits. They are generally found in front of bridges, near springs or houses. Due to their outdoor use, the wood is generally heavily eroded and attacked by wood-boring insects. This statue is no exception. It is depicted squatting with its hands clasped in a sign of contemplation. Height 40cm
