A Japanese Satsuma vase is a collectible and often highly decorative ceramic piece with a rich history. Satsuma ware refers to a type of Japanese pottery, primarily made in Kagoshima Prefecture, and created in the early 17th century. It is best known in the West for its richly decorated export pieces produced during the Meiji period (1868–1912).
