"Pair Of Louis XVI Style Candelabras With Small Fauns. 19th Century"
Pair of Candelabra with two foliated light arms with small Fauns: Inspired by models created around the 1770s by the sculptor-ornamentalist Claude-Michel, known as Clodion (1738-1814), these candelabra present an ingenuous childlike figure. Perched on a small rocky aedicule punctuated by a vine stump, a young Faun with a head adorned with a bunch of grape vine branches holds in the hollow of his arms two slightly asymmetrical foliated acanthus branches. From their corolla, bloom basins, sockets finely chiseled with lanceolate leaves, brettes, gadroons, festoons of ribboned pearls. These lights are based on a white marble base surrounded by a frieze of water leaves and festooned with leonine skin resting on foliated claw feet. With an elegant balance of lines, this quality set bears the signature of "E.Wald. Ciseleur" carved on the reverse of its constituent pieces. H.: 23 cm; W.: 18.5 cm; base: 10x10 cm. Last third of the 19th century, very good condition.
