Pair Of Paintings With Floral Silk Embroidery - 19th Century Period
Charming pair of needle-embroidered floral compositions, made of polychrome silk on an ecru canvas background, probably of Lyon or Alsatian origin. Each work presents a delicate bouquet of flowers mixing roses, pansies, cornflowers and ears of wheat, in a natural arrangement inspired by 18th-century botanical engravings. Each embroidery is monogrammed in the lower right corner with the intertwined letters “EL”, probably those of the embroiderer or the recipient of the work. The compositions are presented in their original frames of blackened wood and gilded stucco decorated with pearls, typical of the second half of the 19th century. The old glasses preciously protect the textiles, preserved in a remarkable condition for their age, with some discreet marks of time which contribute to their charm of authenticity. Wear from use, in their original condition.
