"Apollo: Antique Bronze, 19th Century"
Rare bronze depicting Apollo, simply dressed in a vine leaf and holding a harp in his hand as the god of music and beauty. Magnificent brown patina with green highlights. Leaning on a trunk, holding his drapery over his head, the divinity seems to pose, displaying an athletic body for all to see, his left knee slightly bent, his curved arm revealing graceful curves. His face stands out from his body and reveals a figure with full cheeks and fine features reminiscent of the “prime of life” in which the divinity finds itself. Highlighted by its golden patina, the harp held by Apollo serves to present the functions of the god, but if music is represented, where is the symbol of beauty? This role is simply represented through the beauty of the bronze, its patina, and the model itself. This bronze, with its ability to capture beauty and its symbolism, is an ode to antiquity, inspired by ancient statuary art and the representation of bodies.
