Frame: H 37 x W 62 cm
Signed at lower left and dated 1918
Back signed on cardboard
Pictorial work by Antonio Piatti, dated 1918, executed in oil on cardboard and presented in a fine coeval gilt frame.
The work, signed and dated at lower left, bears additional signature on the back of the cardboard, confirming its authenticity.
The work depicts the Virgin Mary at the foot of the cross during the Passion of Jesus.
The central figure, dressed in intense blue, draws the viewer's attention and guides the composition, while the other two figures appear lying or kneeling, immersed in a contemplative atmosphere. The pictorial stroke is soft, with loose, luminous brushstrokes that restore an impressionistic, dreamy tone to the scene.
