Louis XV Period Provençal Commode in Carved and Lacquered Walnut with Shell and Olive Branch Motifs
This curved commode, known as a "sauteuse," combines elegance and decoration. It features two drawers on the front, made of black lacquered walnut with gilded highlights. Molded and sculpted with a shell and olive branch motifs, it has rounded stiles ending in small, intricately shaped feet. The lock plates and drawer handles are made of gilded bronze. The top, made of solid walnut with a crow's beak edge, is black lacquered with gilded accents.
This beautiful piece, typical of Provence during the Louis XV period around 1750, showcases remarkable craftsmanship.
