The handles are mother-of-pearl, and the front and back bolsters are silver-gilt, decorated with large rocaille shells, acanthus leaf scrolls, and ornate friezes.
The silver-gilt parts are all highly decorated.
The fork and spoon are hallmarked:
. The so-called Vieillard hallmark, or Michelangelo hallmark for 950/°° Parisian silver between 1819 and 1838.
. The head of Ceres, a hallmark for large silver works from the same period.
. A silversmith's hallmark to be identified, possibly JM with a lyre (?)
. Later control mark with a boar's head, after 1838
Very beautiful cutlery, with a beautiful combination of mother-of-pearl and silver-gilt, which lends elegance and preciousness. The use of these materials is typical of the reign of Charles X and of the objects sold in the boutiques of the Palais Royal.
19 and 20.3 cm long
