"Large Ciborium, Gilded Silver, France 19th Century By Paul Brunet"
Large gilt silver ciborium resting on a circular base with an overhanging edge. The terrace bears a raised Latin inscription, arranged in a circle, and is screwed onto the flat part of the surface. The tapered shaft, fitted with a collar and a massive toric knot, supports a hemispherical cup, also decorated with a Latin inscription, as are the knot and the lid. A cruciform globe adorns the top of the lid. This ciborium was made by the Parisian goldsmith Paul Brunet — a great specialist in liturgical goldsmithing — active in Paris from 1871 to 1913. It is likely intended for large religious celebrations in churches or cathedrals, and can contain a large number of hosts. 950/1000 silver, Minerva hallmarks Height: 36.5 cm Diameter of the base: 18 cm Diameter of the cup: 15 cm Weight: 1187 g This ciborium is in very good condition: it has retained its beautiful gilding and shows no dents or dents. The lid closes perfectly, without difficulty; the base is flat and not deformed. Presence of an old repair under the collar of the shaft. Slight traces of use.
