Japanese Ukiyo-e* type print, signed by the artist Kunisada (1786 - 1865) known as Toyokuni III family name: Utagawa, representing two Oiran on the banks of a river, scene from Genji monogatari** (Genji-e), Edo period 19th centuryThis print is in good general condition. The Tale of Genji, which presents itself as a true story (monogatari), tells the life of one of these imperial princes, of extraordinary beauty, an accomplished poet and charmer of women. The Tale of Genji was a favorite theme in Japanese painting, notably in the yamato-e movement of the Heian period, the panel painting of the Tosa school or ukiyo-e prints.
