The subject, the composition and the very light and clear style are reminiscent in particular of the art of Hendrick Josef Antonissen. Hendrik Jozef Antonissen (1737 - 1794) was a painter and engraver from the Southern Netherlands, specializing in landscapes and scenes with herds. A pupil of the Antwerp painter Balthasar Beschey, he had many pupils including Henri Blomaerts, Jan Baptist Ceurvorst, Simon Denis, Hendrik Frans de Cort, Jacob Trachez and Ignatius van den Berghe, and the animal painter Balthasar Paul Ommeganck.
