Thai Marvijaya Buddha In Gilded Bronze, Rattanakosin Period, 19th Century
This elegant and refined Buddha is depicted in the Maravijaya, or earth-touching mudra, symbolizing Victory over Mara. He sits in the half-lotus position on a three-tiered trapezoidal platform. The bronze is refined, gilded, and red lacquered. It dates from the early to mid-19th century. Its condition is excellent, but the gilding shows signs of wear on the face and body due to veneration and use.
