Object description :

"Henri Pailler (1876-1954) Animated View Luxembourg 1909. Crozant School Pupil Guillaumin Alluaud"
New superb and large oil on canvas by Henri Pailler representing a lively view in Luxembourg in 1909, signed lower right + located, dated and countersigned on the back "Vianden, GD du Luxembourg, sept 1909 (or 1905), Henri Pailler" Format of the canvas alone without frame 54x65cm and 80x90cm frame included. This is therefore a new magnificent canvas by Henri Pailler in Fauvist style representing a lively riverside in Vianden in Luxembourg in 1905 or 1909. As usual at this time Pailler uses a very powerful touch and a very subtle palette with an incredible richness of tones. I already had in the past a first canvas on Luxembourg which was also a small masterpiece, so apparently Pailler appreciated this Country. Made during his best period, called Fauvist period (1902-1908), so naturally his most highly rated period and by far, the results ranging between 4000 and 13500€ when his other paintings sell between 400 and 1500€, indeed there is a very big difference between the works of this period and those of earlier periods, more academic and those later much less daring. It is during this period that he best applies the lessons of his master and friend Armand Guillaumin, but also those of the Fauves such as Manguin, Valtat, Seyssaud, Dufy or Othon-Friesz, his friends for the most part. It is finally during this period that he creates masterpieces on the Creuse valley, but also nudes or still lifes. I advise you to go see a sublime still life that I had titled the lemonade of 1904 that I sold a few months ago. PAILLER Henri born in Poitiers in 1876, died in 1954. Painter of landscapes, nudes and still lifes. Student of Bonnat at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Henri Pailler is in fact the student and friend of Armand Guillaumin. More modest and less ambitious than his comrades Friesz, Marquet and Dufy met at the Bonnat workshop, he preferred the classical impressionism of Guillaumin, the master of Crozant, whom he accompanied in the Creuse. Still very young, Henri Pailler, aware of the privilege of frequenting Guillaumin, receives his lessons like a real treasure. On the other hand, to ensure daily income, he teaches drawing in Poitiers then in Roubaix, where he quickly succeeds in making teaching a hobby and painting a profession. Throughout his life he will seek neither recognition nor laurels for his landscapes which change only at the slow rhythm of the seasons. Henri Pailler nevertheless succeeded, despite his position as a follower, in asserting his own personality. His most frequent subjects were views of Crozant and the surroundings of Poitiers and Limousin, until his appointment as a drawing teacher in Roubaix. Then appeared views of the north of France, and during his holidays, views of the south; then he ended his life in Triel sur Seine where he produced his greatest work, although very wise. Henri Pailler always kept a preference for Crozant and his Creuse. Henri Pailler debuted at the Salon des Indépendants in 1903 with 7 landscapes, and in 1904 with 7 others, etc... Present in many museums, Limoges, Guêret, Poitiers, at the Roubaix swimming pool etc... This canvas is in very good condition, recently cleaned, as well as restored, because there was a tiny little hole (see back) but now almost undetectable, that's absolutely all. Finally delivered in a large period gilded frame in fairly good condition (I can obviously sell it without this frame for 150€ less) Work guaranteed authentic.
