Flanders 15th century
Imposing and heavy candlestick made of cast and turned brass, consisting of:
*a wide circular base (16.5cm diameter) with an oblique rim, and lightly raised with a simple discreet thread, lifting the candlestick above the table where it was placed.
*a turned shaft featuring three rings or bands and two balusters
*and a square and rectangular binet with two lights, for the extraction of melted wax
Condition:
The base shows some light usage dents
A relief engraved property mark on the reverse (rather than from the craftsman who made it) with the initials I.D.
The junction of the base and the shaft is original, and has a very beautiful overall patina (it has not been polished!)
The candlestick has a very wide base compared to its height and is very thick (brass) and very heavy.
Dimensions:
16.5cm diameter at the base
23.5cm heigth
687g weigth
A stunning and fabulous piece of table arts and of any Haute Epoque collection.
