Oil on canvas, signed at lower right

Dimensions: W 179 x H 117 cm (unframed)

Coeval frame: W 183 x H 121 cm

Artwork description:

This large painting depicts an alpine view of rare beauty and harmony, signed by Gino Federici (legible signature at lower right). The work is distinguished by its meticulous naturalistic rendering and the narrative intensity with which the artist depicts peasant life in a mountain landscape.

Subject:

In the center of the composition is a sunny valley surrounded by snow-capped mountains and forests, rendered in warm tones and a grazing light that enhances the perspective depth. In the left foreground, two young shepherdesses are depicted in simple clothing: one sitting pensively on a rock, the other standing with a basket on her shoulders. Around them graze sheep and goats, detailed with realism and delicacy.

Technique and style:

Oil painting on canvas, done with fine, well-modulated brushwork.

The stylistic approach is late-naturalist with verist influences, typical of the Italian painting schools active between the late 19th century and the first half of the 20th century.
