One can only imagine how he posed this model to bring out so many elements of his character and personality.
Two portraits of men by Bonnevay can be found in two French museums: the Musée Crozatier in Le Puy en Velay and the Musée d'Unterlinden in Colmar.
Both are of the same quality as our painting.
