Magnificent and large painting by the famous painter Pierre Justin OUVRIÉ born January 19, 1806 in Paris, student of Baron Taylor and Abel DE PUJOL. At the SCHOOL OF Fine Arts in Paris, he participated in the salons from 1831, a perfect draftsman and nicknamed the "portraitist of cities", he accompanied Paul HUET in his long walks in the forest of Compiègne. A great traveler, he made numerous views of cities mainly Swiss, German, Venice and especially Holland with Amsterdam with the famous Prinzt GRACHT HERE REPRESENTED and exhibited at the Salon des Beaux Arts of 1869, this is the only official painting that the artist exhibited at the salon that year. Oil on canvas signed and dated lower right 1869 with a gilded stucco frame in Louis XV style. He died on October 23, 1879 near Rouen after having been knighted in the Legion of Honor in 1854.
