French Orientalist School, In The Manner Of Louis Hottot – Circa 1900

A beautiful pair of polychrome spelter sculptures depicting an Oriental dancer and a musician playing a traditional stringed instrument, probably a rebab.

The dancer is portrayed in a graceful and animated pose, with one arm raised in movement. Adorned with a necklace and a small red cap, she wears a richly draped costume enhanced with red, brown and gilt tones.

The musician, depicted as an elderly man with a particularly expressive face, accompanies the dancer with his instrument. He wears a long, finely modelled tunic and carries a satchel at his waist.

Both figures stand on elaborate architectural pedestals decorated with Oriental motifs and partially covered with finely detailed carpets.

The quality of the modelling, the richness of the decorative details and the attractive polychromy relate this ensemble to the Orientalist works of Louis Hottot (1834–1905).

Originally conceived as a complementary pair, the two sculptures form a particularly harmonious decorative composition. It is increasingly uncommon to find both subjects together, complete and preserved in such remarkable condition.

The pair is in excellent condition, with no damage or losses. The preservation of both figures, their polychrome decoration and their original pedestals makes this ensemble especially desirable for a collection or a refined interior.
