Beautiful, bright and high-contrast work by the Corsican-born painter Max Agostini, depicting two elegant women walking along a path in Provence, most likely in the vicinity of Aix en Provence or Aubagne where the artist used to paint.
The artist uses a palette of bright and vivid colors which brings his work to life and wonderfully represents the light of a summer day.
Leader of the contemporary impressionists, the painter MAX-AGOSTINI was born in Paris in 1914, of Corsican origin through his grandparents. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and discovered a real talent for Impressionism. Incorporated into the French Army for five years at the beginning of the Second World War, MAX-AGOSTINI was taken prisoner for three years. During the post-war period, he was noted for his quality as an excellent portraitist and landscaper in Châteauroux, where he worked for several years. Later, he settled in Gargilesse in Berry and in Provence.
In January 1997, he was still painting his most beautiful canvases a few days before his hospitalization.
He is recognized worldwide as one of the greatest colorists of his time.
Dimensions: 27 x 41 cm without frame and 41.5 x 55.5 cm with its original gilded wooden frame.
