"United Order Of Druids Silver Medal"
The creation of the Ancient United Order of Druids in 1833 resulted from a split within the Ancient Order of Druids; a significant portion of its members decided to create a druidic order more open to different social classes, structured as a benevolent society and registered with the government. For the first few decades, the UAOD retained the same emblem as the AOD (a shield with three oak trees surrounded by a Celtic warrior and a druid), changing the motto to "United to Help." The UAOD quickly became very successful, and many of its members, traveling abroad, founded new lodges in the United States of America (1839), Australia (1851), New Zealand, and the German Empire (1872). In 1858, the UAOD split in two, and a new fraternal society, the Order of Druids, was created. After World War II, the organization disappeared, the generalization of the welfare state providing the population with everything that was its raison d'être. Its last Lodge in England, "Caracus", closed in 1999 but the UAOD still remains present in several countries such as the United States, Australia, Germany and Northern European countries.
