Marie Howet (Libramont, 1897 - 1984).
Belgian painter, draftsman, watercolorist, sculptor, ceramist, poet. Trained in the studio of Van Strydonck, while perfecting her skills in Paris. Prix de Rome in 1922. She starts from elements belonging to visible reality and synthesizes them. Initially, she emphasized the accuracy of the drawing but later, she spread the pigments in broad, strong lines and large touches. In Paris, she produced some gray-blue portraits in the style of the Nabis. Her palette is composed of light tones: a lot of blue, emerald green and ultramarine blue. Her impressionist style is close to fauvism. Travels to France, Italy, Greece, Ireland, and England. Has a studio in Brussels. Member of the "Royal Belgian Society of Watercolorists." From 1931 to 1950, she was a member of the jury for the Prix de Rome. She published collections of poems: "A la source d'Ara" (1934), "Feu de Bois" (1970). Member of the "Belgian Women's Artistic Federation."
Works at the Museum of Walloon Art in Liège and in the museums of Brussels, Antwerp, Ixelles, and Tournai.
