German solid silver and cut crystal planter, circa 1890 Elegant table planter in 800 thousandths solid silver, mounted on a scalloped base and highlighted with a rich Rocaille-Louis XVI style decoration, finely embossed and chiseled. The openwork belt presents a motif of crosses adorned with flowers, while the smooth reserves alternate with panels finely decorated with stylized foliage. The whole is punctuated by a scalloped and molded border of great precision. The setting is completed by its interior in wheel-cut crystal, forming at the bottom a radiating star motif, typical of high-end productions of the late 19th century. Note a very discreet shine barely perceptible on one of the points of the crystal scalloping, reported here for accuracy but almost invisible to the naked eye. German title mark “800” and goldsmith mark WTB (Wilhelm T. Binder), active in Hanau, a town renowned for its production of high-quality historicist silverware.
