Object description :

"The Casbah Of Algiers. Jules Rousset (1840-1921) "
Beautiful view of an alley in the Casbah of Algiers painted on the motif. A beautiful atmosphere rendered by the powerful effects of light and by a certain simplicity excluding any anecdote, inviting us perhaps more to imagine the sounds of the city than to be satisfied with a gratuitous picturesque. Jules ROUSSET (1840-1921) was born in Aillant-sur-Milleron (Loiret 45). Landscape portrait painter and orientalist. He was a student of Léon Cogniet and Isidore Pils at the Beaux-Arts in Paris and exhibited at the salon from 1867. He exhibited paintings on Algeria in 1888 at the Blois salon. Oil on canvas on cardboard, period marouflage. Painting 27.5x18.5 cm Cardboard 28x19.5 cm Signature and situation on the back of the cardboard. Shipping France and international.
