Chinese Porcelain Dish. Sun Yat Sen And Madame. China, Early 20th Century.
The dish is made of hard porcelain. The decoration is a photo transfer of Sun-Yat-Sen, a politician who was the first president of the Chinese republic, accompanied by his wife. He was president in 1912 for a few months, then again from 1917 until his death in 1925. In the photo, the clothing is more reminiscent of the fashion of the 1900s rather than the roaring post-war years. The photo must represent the presidential couple during the first term, around 1912. Sun Yat Sen would have been around fifty years old at that time, which would correspond to his photo. The rest of the decoration is painted in red and blue enamels and represents the flags of the new republic as well as a long text of Chinese characters very meticulously painted in black enamel, which is the work of an excellent artist. On the back, the Jurentang zhi mark is painted in red enamel. Good condition. Diameter 304mm. China, Republican period, early 20th century.
