Provenance: Studio of the painter Louis Leydet then by inheritance in the artist's family.
Part of a set of works by the painter Edouard Ducros kept by the artist Louis Leydet in his studio.
Charming little work, in soft colors, attributed to the Aix painter Edouard Ducros, friend of Cézanne, which represents a boat and a woman sitting on the beach most likely in Martigues where the artist liked to paint.
After a brilliant career as a lawyer, solicitor and then clerk at the Court of Appeal of Aix en Provence, Edouard Ducros decided to abandon his position to devote himself to painting. At the age of 46, he was a student of the painters Louis Gautier and Jules Gustave Gagliardini.
He exhibited at the Salon des artistes français from 1911 to 1935. He was the founder, in 1894, of the association Les Amis des arts de sa ville whose aim was to exhibit the work of painters from the Pays d'Aix in the gallery on the Cours Mirabeau. His friend Cézanne was one of the first artists to exhibit within this association.
Moreover, it was alongside his friend Cézanne that the artist went to paint the surroundings of Aix.
