Pair of oil paintings on canvas – Pastoral biblical scenes
Oil on canvas
Dimensions: 36 x 49 cm
Period: Second half of the 18th century
Origin: Veneto – Italy
Description:
Elegant pair of oil paintings on canvas, executed with great narrative sensitivity and decorative flair, attributable to the Venetian school of the 18th century. The two works depict pastoral scenes inspired by the Bible, featuring figures in classical attire set in lush, verdant landscapes.
In the first painting, a young woman at a well converses with an elderly traveler, surrounded by amphorae and sheep — a composition that recalls the episode of Rebecca and Abraham’s servant. The second depicts a man addressing a woman with a child, while several women look on from a staircase, likely alluding to a family or presentation scene, reminiscent of stories such as Ruth and Naomi or Hannah and Samuel.
These works stand out for their meticulous detail and a warm, harmonious color palette. In good overall condition, with signs of age consistent with the period. Ideal for lovers of sacred art and 18th-century landscape painting.
