Louis Roger (1874-1953) Preaching on the shores of Lake Tiberias Oil on canvas signed lower right 89 x 116 cm Painting probably preparatory to a large painting dated 1938 which is in the church of Sainte-Radegonde de Monnières in the 44. (see the last photo). Bibliography: Originally from Paris, he went to live in Saint Nazaire and joined the fine arts of Rennes before returning to join the studio of Benjamin Constat at the Académie Julian then that of Jean Paul Laurens at the fine arts of Paris. He won the Prix de Rome for painting in 1899 for Hercules between Vice and Virtue. In 1903, he received a 2nd class medal. He exhibited at the Salon of the Society of French Artists, of which he became a member in 1905. In 1907, he won the Rosa Bonheur Prize (Anna Klumpke Foundation). In the early 1910s he decorated several official buildings such as the Rennes City Hall (the works are currently kept at the Museum of Fine Arts). Many of his works are in museums such as those in Rennes, Orsay, ENSAB in Paris, BA in Nice, BA in Narbonne, BA in Nantes, etc.
