Biography:
QU Qianmei was born on October 10, 1956 in Rui'an, Zhejiang province, China, where she studied painting from a very young age. In 1979, she entered the Ecole Normale where she learned traditional calligraphy and painting. In 1986, she left China for Paris. A few years later, she met Wang Yan Cheng, who introduced her to Abstract Art. It was a revelation. Her approach, both universal and rooted in a rich cultural tradition, gives her work extraordinary strength and moving expressiveness. In 2006, QU Qianmei won the silver medal at the Prix de la Peinture Contemporaine in Paris, and in 2012, the UNESCO Grand Prix de la Peinture. An artist concerned with spirituality, in search of a pure land whose paintings would be, in a way, messages, she was marked by a trip to Tibet. Returning to China in 2008, she spent a year at the CAFA (Central Academy of Fine Art) in Beijing before exhibiting 3 years later at the Beijing Museum. She now lives and works between France and China and exhibits worldwide.
