Painted and gilded bronze, molded white opaline glass
Original wiring to be brought up to standard
Pair of 3-light wall lights depicting a stylized male and female bearer, each holding a fruit basket on which the globes are placed. The bodies are treated in black patinated bronze, while the draperies, arms and plant ornaments are in gilded bronze. The pressed opaline globes imitate pineapples.
The ensemble is part of the spectacular and exotic aesthetic specific to the production of Maison Baguès in the 1950s-1960s, at the crossroads of the neo-Louis XVI style and theatrical decor.
These wall lights perfectly illustrate the French decorative art of the post-war period, combining traditional know-how and luxurious fantasy.
Very good general condition, no accidents or repairs.
Founded in Paris at the end of the 19th century, Maison Baguès established itself as a major player in artistic ironwork and luxury lighting. From the 1920s onwards, the company supplied prestigious pieces for palaces, churches, and grand residences. In the 1950s and 1960s, it adopted a more spectacular and international decorative language, characterized by the use of bronzes with contrasting patinas, crystals, and exotic motifs (pineapples, leaves, draperies, and parrots). Baguès pieces from this period are highly sought after today for neoclassical or contemporary interiors.
