Painted wooden box decorated on the 5 sides with country and village scenes, original polychromy, built in beech. These boxes were offered by the suitor to his fiancée, secret box, the future wife could store her letters and jewels there. Beautiful example of folk art from the South of Alsace or Switzerland, missing lock, 19th century period.
