Their sculptures are large, made of dense and heavy wood that resists insects and erosion. Many were destroyed during the war of secession that opposed the North and South of Sudan before the partition of the country. Many were burned by the populations as cooking wood during this war, which makes them particularly rare and precious. The study published in the journal Art Tribal Winter/Spring 1999/2000 counts only a few dozen in public and private collections.
