Pair of high-backed armchairs with armrests of the "fateuil à la reine" type, with a carved wooden structure in the same color. The legs are curved on dowels and the fronts are carved with "H"-shaped frames with waves (like the legs and armrests) and vegetal and geometric elements, as well as volutes. The seat is covered in tapestry (vegetal theme) with a border featuring simplified architectural elements, a combination also found on the high back, where figurative elements can be seen (which could be female allegories on backgrounds with vegetal and architectural motifs). These sinuous lines of the arms, legs and uprights are known in the French school as "en os de mouton" (sheep bone), and are characteristic of the Louis XIII style, but also frequently used in furniture of the French school of Louis XIV style. Throughout this latter period (which took place during the reign of the monarch of the same name, between 1661 and 1715, although it was not widely used until around Le Brun's death in 1690, after which it was gradually replaced by the Regency), the uprights of chairs and armchairs changed from an H-shape to an X-shape, as a general rule. The tapestry is also old. -
