"Large Empire Clock Representing "orpheus Charming The Animals" - Dijon - Circa 1805/1808"
Empire period clock between 1805 and 1808 representing Orpheus, hero of Greek mythology, son of the king of Thrace Oeagre and the Muse Calliope. He knew how to charm wild animals with the accents of his lyre and even managed to move inanimate beings. Movement signed Noël Frère in Dijon. Quarter strike (double). Very pretty composition, of remarkable quality of chasing, the base in gilt bronze polished with agate is decorated with the twelve signs of the zodiac.
