Bibliography: Prosper Lecourtier (1851-1925) was a student of Emmanuel Frémiet (1824-1910), he exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1875 until his death. Frémiet seems to have bequeathed to his student his passion for the animal world. The latter excelled in the production of animals in a naturalistic style. Lecourtier, for his part, expressed his talent through small sculptures. We find in his sculptures of hunting scenes the influence of his master, however Lecourtier detaches himself from his model by the integration of movement as shown in his sculptures of hunting dogs or deer and does. He possessed a real sense of naturalism in the anatomical modeling and expressions of the animals represented. He won several medals at the Salon and at universal exhibitions.
