Oval box in lacquered papier-mâché with a polychrome decoration of a romantic scene of courtship in a fairy-tale landscape, red lacquered interior. Under the base the mark of the village of Kholui in Russia, 20th century. Kholui was from the 16th century a center of icon production; after the Bolshevik revolution, the artisans converted to the production of paintings on papier-mâché support.. Object of good quality in excellent condition
