The gilded bronze figures, representing Cupid as a child and Chronos lying on the ground, are the work of François Girardon. This model of clock, with a few variations, is found in important museums.
This example is distinguished by finely sculpted acanthus leaves on either side of the dial, its drapery placed heavily on the base and its imposing pilaster-shaped feet; details significantly reminiscent of the one preserved at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles.
Our clock was made in the 19th century, around 1860 - 1870.
A model of superior quality; in addition, very sought after; which rarely appears on the art market !
To be restored.
