The shaft and beard are a single piece of carved and curved tortoiseshell. The blade is adorned with a mother-of-pearl lure carved with a fish.
This hook was used for bonito fishing. According to the book Fish Hooks of the Paci- fic Islands by Daniel Blau and Klaus Maaz, it is a type E hook.
