A student of Michel Martin Drolling, he made his debut at the Salon of 1845 and did not exhibit there until 1848. After the destruction of the theater of the Château de Fontainebleau by a fire in 1856, he executed the allegorical figures of Poetry, Music, Fame and the Genius of the Arts. He received a silver medal at the Salon of 1870 and was named a knight of the Legion of Honor in 1870. He died on April 9, 1893.
The painting has been restored and relined. Dimensions: approximately 58 x 50 cm
