Leon Beel, 1924-2008, Belgian painter and pastellist of landscapes, rural scenes, portraits, nudes and still lifes. He began as an autodidact alongside his job as an electrician and found advice and support from Georges Dheedene and Roger De Baker. He then perfected his skills at the Academies of Oudenaarde and Deinze with Albert Blondeel. He exhibited in Ghent from 1944. Settled as an independent painter in 1972 in Wakken (Dentergem). He drew his inspiration from the Lys and Mandel region and traveled to Germany, Italy and the South of France. He restored murals in various churches, notably in Laeken and Huise. Works in the possession of many municipalities in West Flanders. Artist listed in the Arto au Piron (Dictionaries of Belgian Painters).
