Oil on canvas with a background featuring a Breeze of Glory in light tones and clouds and a figure in the center, positioned on a crescent moon and three angel heads, dressed in a white tunic and a blue mantle. The image of the Virgin Mary in this work reflects one of the most common models of the Immaculate Conception in Spanish Baroque art. This devotion presents an iconography whose development began in Gothic art, responding to a desire to highlight the purity of the Mother of Christ. Initially, it took details from the Vision of Saint John on Patmos and elements of the Marian Litany, but it was simplified over time to result in examples such as this one. -
