Rare decorative vase by Roger Guérin, made around 1930 in his Bouffioulx studio. This Grand Feu salt-fired stoneware model (fired at 1300°C) features a remarkable relief decoration depicting a medieval-inspired dragon, which encircles the body of the piece in a powerful and stylized circular motion. Roger Guérin was one of the greatest Belgian ceramists of the 20th century, active during the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods. Trained by Willem Delsaux, he founded his own studio in 1918 and developed a recognizable aesthetic combining sculptural forms and complex glazes. From 1934 to 1939, he taught at La Cambre in Brussels and collaborated with artists such as Marcel Wolfers, Cris Agterberg, and Domien Ingels. This unique piece perfectly embodies Guérin's virtuosity: hand-modeled decoration, rich glazes with reflections combining cobalt blue, oxidized copper, and earth tones. Glazed using the salt stoneware technique, it reveals a deep and vibrant texture. Signature "Guérin" under the base. Excellent condition. Collector's item.
